[CANCELLED: April 1, 2022] Richard Thompson
This show was announced and then went away. I never heard an explanation. It’s possible the show was cancelled before tickets even went on sale.
But I do have proof that it was announced
Richard Thompson, noted as one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” makes his annual McCarter Theater presentation. Friday, April 1, 8 p.m.
But there is also this piece of news floating around that I didn’t see until after April 3:
• Richard Thompson will discuss his memoir “Beeswing: Losing My Way and Finding My Voice, 1967-1975” with Hoboken-based musician James Mastro and play a few songs at the second Hoboken Literary Weekend, taking place April 1-3 at Little City Books. Thompson’s appearance will take place April 3 at 5 p.m.
He clearly didn’t cancel his April 1 show because of a speaking engagement 2 days later.
But there was never an official reason given that I can see.
There’s a lengthy review by Cindy Stagoff of the Hoboken event here
A nice ending to the piece includes:
Mastro asked Thompson what he has being doing since 1975, when the book’s tales end. “I got a job at a great tech company,” Thompson laughed.
He said he thinks that since he is not on television, people assume he is inactive. Thompson said that he never stopped recording music and has a very hectic tour schedule. Indeed, this hardworking musician has played more than 10,000 gigs over the years.
As the interview occurred on Thompson’s birthday, Mastro ended the evening by asking Thompson to play a C chord and then graciously leading the audience in a round of “Happy Birthday to You.”
