[ATTENDED: October 15, 2026] Lauren Ash
I have enjoyed Lauren Ash as an actress for a pretty long time–since I first saw her on Super Fun Night, and then of course on Superstore. I had no idea she had put music out. Indeed, I found out that Lauren Ash put out a record when I saw this show listed at Kung Fu Necktie. So I had to look her up. And she has an album out. And I really liked it–90’s era pop punk, funny lyrics and catchy as anything.
I thought it would be interesting to see her, but I had a ticket to see The Dillinger Escape Plan that evening–quite a different sound.
The more I looked into the DEP show, the less I was interested in seeing the first two bands (no offense to them, I just didn’t think I could handle a full on heavy night), so I decided to do something wacky. The Lauren Ash show started at 7. What if I went to the Lauren Ash show at Kung Fu Necktie, and when she was done, I could drive to Underground Arts and see just DEP. I had tried a similar plan a few times before with varying results. But I assumed that Lauren’s show would be fairly short and that all would work out.
Here’s some deets on Lauren’s music career
She exploded onto the music scene in 2023 with her pop punk single “Now I Know” (which debuted at #1 on the Canadian iTunes rock chart and #5 on Billboard’s Alternative Download Chart). Her debut album “Call Me When You Get This” released in September 2025 featuring her single “Whiplash” which was nominated for a “Hollywood Independent Music Award” for best rock/pop song. She performed her single “Sad This Christmas” on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and spoke about her music on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”.
I read some reviews of her UK shows and they were all positive, so I was in.
After The Droogettes set, her stage was set up wit a TV and a telephone. When 9PM came around, the phone rang. After several rings, Lauren’s voice said, can someone answer that please? A woman answered it and Lauren thanked her and then asked if that person would start the TV. Which she did. And what played was a series of well wishes and teases from just about everyone from The Superstore cast as well as other folks (Cobie Smulders). It was really funny and set a great tone for how the show might go.
Lauren’s band (a guitarist and drummer) came out on stage and then Lauren ran out to the stage. She was psyched to be there and psyched to be playing music. She brought an incredible energy.
The biggest surprise for me both on record and live is how high her voice is. She has a pretty deep authoritative voice on her shows, but she was up an octave for these songs. Of course I had to wonder if her higher voice had anything to do with her weight loss–I wouldn’t think so, but what do I know.
She started with Dumpster Fire and was clearly having a blast–jumping around stage and emoting the lyrics. I enjoyed it a lot that she was snarky in her delivery when necessary–it added a lot to the presentation. I know the album pretty well, so I was surprised when she played some songs I didn’t know. Like The One Who Got Away (a 2024 single) and Now I Know (a 2023 single).
Lauren played guitar for a couple of songs and talked about how excited she was to be in a band.
Then she told us that she first wanted to make music while watching the 1995 movie Mad Love (Drew Barrymore). She said she loved the movie (she was X years old at the time–don’t do the math, it’s rude) and really loved that the band 7 Year Bitch played an entire song in the movie (something that never happens). And then she played the song. I haven’t thought of 7 Year Bitch since the 90s and while I didn’t remember the son that well, I loved how INTO it Lauren got.
After Blow It Up, the phone rang. She laughed and said how weird that was since the phone isn’t even connected to anything (she picked it up and moved it and we saw there were no cords). It was her future self warning her against doing something which has already happened. There were some funny jokes about time travel and how she could have been dating Pedro Pascal if she had listened to her (but everything had already happened).
Then came another older song, Pathological. I guess I hadn’t really realized that there are only 7 songs on the album (there are interludes as well). The song Walk Away is a slow ballad and she killed it. Her voice is really strong.
After acknowledging that the song was sad, she started cursing. I didn’t realize that she was singing the lyrics to Blink-182’s song Family Reunion (which is just George Carlin’s seven dirty words put to music), but I did know there was some kind of 90s Mashup coming and the song segued into Lit’s My Own Worst Enemy. She sang a verse which segued nicely into When I Come Around. Then another Blink song (I never got into them so it was only vaguely familiar) and then onto No Doubt’s Just a Girl. She really shone on this song–her voice was perfect for it. And then her guitar player played the Buddy Holy solo and the medley finished with the verses from the Weezer song and everyone sang along. Just a fun party vibe all around.
Lauren took a shot from her flask and then got a second call from herself telling her not to do the shot–it would prevent her from meeting Pedro Pascal. Stupid but fun.
She told a very funny story about going to see The Offspring and smoking pot. She hadn’t smoked in like a decade and smoked TOO MUCH and had to go to the medical tent (and she showed video proof that her friend took of her being stoned and thinking that she would never come down–hilarious). She played All I Want from The Offspring and then the set ended with three songs from the album, which was really fun.
The Day I Got Over You, a ripping Whiplash and a fantastic Diet Coke and Lexapro.
She said that was the end of the set and would definitely not be coming back out of we cheered loudly. The credits rolled on the TV and then it said, of course she would come out if we cheered more loudly.
She played two new songs, F.A.F.O. which was fun to sing along to and Chainsaw, which was pretty darn rocking. Then she told a funny story about the guy she broke up with who gave her some kind of line and then said she could use that in a song lyric, to which she said Cool Story Bro and that song was a great ending to the set.
The show was about 75 minutes which was perfect for me to fully enjoy it and then head on over to Underground Arts.
I would have liked to look at her merch (she said some stuff is not available on line), but I didn’t know how much time I had. Incidentally, she also had a VIP ticket available (which was like $100 and did not include a ticket to the show). I was curious how many people would actually do that, but I did see a few people with the lanyard. so I guess she made some extra money from the show (see below for what they got). I’m intrigued that she sold out in the UK, but this show was about 75% full. Did her songs get bigger airplay over there? As I said, I didn’t know she did any music, but she put on a really fun show.
