[ATTENDED: October 9, 2026] BRÍET
BRÍET is an Icelandic singer. Her earlier singles were sung in Icelandic, but her newest album has songs in English. When I listened to her English language album, the songs were folk, borderline country. She told us that she made that album in Nashville, so that makes sense.
Indeed, the first song she sang, Until Then, was just her with an acoustic guitar. And wow, her voice was beautiful. Unlike the couple behind us. These two horrible individuals spoke at normal volume during the song about how great a singer she was. What he actual fuck? They were very complimentary which was nice, but holy shit, they didn’t even try to whisper. It was like the most pretentious bullshit spoken at pretentious volume. When he loudly said “she’s like a mermaid” I nudged my wife and said that we needed to move. So we did.
But not before Cowboy Killer. BRÍET won over the audience before this song by saying that she was in Nashville and walked into a bar where these older guys said (she did a good southern accent) “hey pretty lady.” Then she said he had a huge cowboy hat and then put her hands at her waist and said and the largest … …. she couldn’t think of the word so people helpfully shouted “belt buckle” and she said “no, penis.” Instantly won over everyone. (it was really a belt buckle).
And that’s how Cowboy Killer came about.
The next song was electronic–she had a lap top and played a quiet beat. The song is unreleased as of now, I guess (there’s a video on YouTube) called Blood on My Lips. The next song was also electronic and had words like (“I’m open” “ready to let go”). I would certainly check out these more dancey songs and am going to listen to her early Icelandic releases.
Speaking of Icelandic, there were a group of Icelandic people in the balcony and they shouted things at her in Icelandic (they were very drunk) and she had a little chat with them in Icelandic (and then apologized). Evidently they asked for a song (traditional? Or one of hers? No idea). She sang a but and then chimed in, but when she paused for them to sing something, she snarked, “oh you fucked it up, it’s over.” Never found out what song it was.
She told us that when she was sixteen she used to play sons in clubs and one she played all the time was Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) a Cher song that I didn’t know but which she played solo on an electric guitar and it was mournful and impressive.
She ended the set with the final song Walk Out the Door, which she said concluded the story of her album Act I.
And that was that. She came into our lives, blew us away and then left.
