I Just Read About That…

[ATTENDED: September 21, 2026] Suki Waterhouse

My daughter and I saw Suki Waterhouse at All Things Go.  She hadn’t released Memoir of a Sparklemuffin yet, although she did play two songs from it (but not ones I really liked).  My takeaway from her set (not having heard her before) was that I liked her, although I found her songs a little slow, but my overall impression was really positive.  Although I honestly couldn’t really remember her songs.

Since then she has released three songs that WXPN has played a bunch which I love.  I regretted not going to see her last time she was in town, so I was pretty psyched when my wife said she’d love to see her as well.

By the time her set was to start, the young girls had al moved into place in front of us.  Since most of her fans are tiny, I was pretty pleased, until the tiny girls in front of us waved their tall friends over.  The really tall one was off to the side, but the shorter one was a major camera user.  Which was pretty annoying except that she put the camera up high enough that I could see clearly through her arms.   Interestingly. the  guy in the hat who filmed all of Charlotte, didn’t film any of Suki.  Go figure.

The lights dimmed and all of Somewhere Over the Rainbow played.  I do enjoy a walk on song, but it had been pretty long since Charlotte went off and this song is pretty long…  But all was forgiven when the band came out and the lights illuminated the giant heart shaped mirror ball that was on stage.

And then Suki came out and simply owned the stage.  I’ve seen a lot of shows and a lot of shows in this venue and I don’t know if it was the lighting or just her amazing star power, but she seemed enormous up there–like she glowed and it was perfectly easy to see every move she made.  But before she even came down the (mirrored) stairs, she stood on the platform in a Blondie cut off shirt, a shoulder shrug, sparkly shorts and tall boots.  She posed like a model and then the music started.

I was so excited that she opened with Supersad because it is such a great song–it was the song that made me really really enjoy her music.  It sounded fantastic–her voice is great and her backing band was terrific. 

I had only listened to the new Suki album once or twice but Tiny Raisin stood out as a super catchy and fun song (fuck yeah!) and it was a great second song.  She followed with the killer, sultry OMG–when Suki has a hook, it is a great hook.

Morals was a fun song as well.  I was really digging this opening set of songs.  And then she followed it with Back in Love possibly my favorite song at the moment–I cant get enough of it and all of these songs were great live.

Jukebox changed the tempo–a fun weird old school dancey song.  And who knows about jukeboxes anymore?  She went over and talked her guitarist who was ta the piano (she said that he smoked a joint before the show and we might need to yell at him to get him to pay attention).  She joked that he was playing the wrong intro to the song, but soon My Fun started and I had forgotten this song–the first song that absolutely hooked me to Suki–it’s such a weird, fun song, crazy catchy and bouncy.

She slowed things down with Happy with It, which has a super catchy chorus.  Then she played the only song from her debut, the killer Moves which added a bit more dance to the setlist.

She asked if anyone was 18, because she wrote this thinking back when she was 18 (she’s 34).  There were many hands raised for this question.  She also acknowledged some of the folks up front–she seemed quite taken with them–and their cat ears or something.  

She left the stage for a bit and came back in a new T shirt and a sheer pink robe with fluffy arms.  She sat at the piano and played the pretty Notting Hill.  Midway through the song she left the piano and returned to her perch on the platform doing some model poses in the new robe before she took it off.

The sultry When I Get Drunk (oooh, fuck it–Suki is quite NSFW)was followed by Good Looking, a song that the young women around me were really excited by.  After the song, she joked that good looking boys are often a lot of trouble.  After the familiar songs at the beginning of the set, I was getting a little antsy with the songs I didn’t know.  I think mostly my knees hurt.  But it was around this time that I checked to see how many songs were left–although listening to Think Twice and Dream Woman on record, they’re quite enjoyable–I just needed a little pick me up which came from Johanna, a fun, catchy song from an early EP.  

I’ve always liked the song Model, Actress, Whatever.  It’s catchy and funny with a great attitude.  She introduced the next song by saying that Philly is such a winning city (I’m guessing because of a football or baseball game??) that she felt bad playing the next song Could’ve been a Star which she wrote when she felt like a loser.

Suki asked people what else she needs to know about Philly and of course all that came out was about the Eagles.  Even this crowd of young women were psyched about the Eagles.  It’s weird.  But whatever.  She ended the set with the sweet Weirdo and To Love, which she played at All Things Go.  

It was a really fun show.  Suki has a great stage presence and the music was wonderful.  I could have used a few more upbeat songs at the end, but overall it was really fun (and over early).
