[POSTPONED: April 6, 2020] Caspian / Pianos Become the Teeth / Maserati
My friends Liz and Eleanor have told me that Caspian was one of the best shows that they had seen. I have been planning to see them ever since.
They were supposed to play Union Transfer in April 2020, but that show was postponed/cancelled. It’s kind of surprising that they went from Union Transfer to Underground Arts (which is about half the size), but who knows why things are scheduled where they are.
I was pretty excited to go to this show, except that we had tickets to the rescheduled Anti-Flag show for the same night. So Caspian will have to wait.
I hadn’t heard of either of the opening bands, but in looking at them now, Holy Fawn is getting some amazing reviews. I’m intrigued by this headline: “Phoenix’s Holy Fawn Went From “Ghost Folk” to Black Metal” and comments like “so dark, yet so comforting” and a description of their sound as “post-punk, shoegaze, post-rock/metal, ambient.” So I will definitely have to explore them further.
Caracara is a band based in Philly. They appear to have an emo/loud/soft thing going on. Marisa from mannequin Pussy collaborated with them on a song a while back (which is a bona fide for me). Their music sounds intriguing. I’ll have to check them out.
And I hope Caspian comes back soon.
Because of the trip scheduled for this weekend, I’m not sure I would have been up for going, but I would have loved to.
I thought I knew who Pianos Become the Teeth were, but I was thinking of Roomful of Teeth an apparently very different band. Given Pianos become the teeth’s comparisons to Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, I think I’d like them.
Maserati has been around since 2000 and also get compared to EITS and Mogwai. I’ll be I would have loved this whole night. I hope the show gets rescheduled as is on a night I can go.
