[READ: August 2021] World Piece 1
I saw this book at work and thought it looked really intriguing. I liked Agroshka’s drawing style immediately and then the story really captured me,
It opens in a basketball game. Lucas Densen is a decent (but not great) player for his high school team (the Pulsars). He makes a nice block, but he threw a terrible brick. However, he’s really cute and quite popular with the ladies.
However, he’d really rather be spending time at his mother’s archaeological dig. They haven’t found much stuff in this dig, but while Lucas is there the crew has a small discovery. Lucas’ mother tells him not to touch anything, but when he sees something, he can’t help but grab it which sends him through a portal to another world where he is left holding the earth like it’s a basketball.
He looks around and meets a beautiful woman with a kind of crown and long blonde hair. Her name is lully and she believes she sent for Lucas. Her parents are affluent and Lully is kind of secluded on her home planet, Affin.
Indeed Lully is guarded by Probotsl It turns out that there are a lot of very deadly things on Affin. A giant spider thing tries to get the two of them. They are saved by Mitton, a soldier who is disillusioned with the war. They all agree to head to the city so Lully can have some freedom.
It seems that everyone in the city that everyone wants to steal the Earth. The earth is not as fragile as Lucas fears and he is actually able to use it as a weapon when necessary.
The biggest challenge comes when they meet a giant robot creature named Gaddi. Gaddi seems dangerous but manages to save them, at least temporarily. This all eventually leads them to the scientist, Dr. Renald a woman who seems to be in control of a lot that’s behind the scenes.
As the book comes to an end, we meet Damas, a giant creature who has just eaten a planet. Lully is horrified at this behemoth. But even more horrified when she discoveres that her father is having a business meeting with this creature.
Our trio decide to leave Affin and as they board a fancy cruise ship, someone seems very happy to seem them coming aboard.
There’s a lot that’s confusing in this first book, but that’s the nature of first books. I’d certainly read the next installment just to see how our planet is doing.
