[November 7, 2020] Kamala Harris!
On August 15, 2019, I made my first donation to the Kamala Harris for President campaign. It was early days then, but she and Elizabeth Warren were my top choices.
In December 2019 Kamala Harris dropped out of the campaign after a pretty steep rise and surprisingly quick fall.
Then in August 2020, almost a year after I first donated, Kamala Harris was selected as Joe Biden’s running mate.
Now, today, she is the Vice President-elect!
Finally, after all of these long years, we have a woman in the second-highest office in the land. Let’s not forget all of the other glass ceilings she has broken.
First woman. First Black vice president. First Black woman vice president. First South Asian American. First South Asian American woman. First VP whose parents come from India and Jamaica. First VP who’s a stepmom. First VP to be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. First HBCU grad. First vice president married to a man … [this list is from Politico]
I don’t know how willing this country is to vote for a woman President (2016 really crushed me). I can only hope that these broken barriers lead the way to more greatness.
And I would like to recommend the wonderful book Kamala Harris: Rooted in Justice by Nikki Grimes
