[ATTENDED: May 17, 2018] Adira Amram
I hadn’t heard of Adira Amram, but Kid Koala assured us we would be laughing our butts off during her very short set.
And her set was very short, only about 20 minutes.
She came out by herself in the glittery gold lame top and pink spandex pants.
She had a keyboard and she proceeded to get the crowd hyped.
She pressed a key and the sound of the end of a record skipping began to play. Over and over. She waved her hand back and forth getting us amped up to that staticy sound. It grew funnier and funnier.
And then she took the keyboard away and music played through the speakers. She then sang along to her song “I’m Electric” which rhymes vagina with a hole straight to China. And then she brought out her backing dancers, The Experience, who are clearly very good dancers.
It was all very surreal. The songs were lyrically kind of funny, but it was the whole presentation and Amram herself that totally sold the concept. Like when she shouted “can you believe a human being came out of this body?” as she was doing some impressive stretching.
Amram has worked with the team from Broad City in some capacity, and she has released an album Hot Jams for Teens and an EP from which the hopping fun song “Pizza Party.” comes.
I also love that before tee final song she informed that crowd that she and the experience would be crowd surfing out of the room. And damned if they didn’t.
I could have used about 20 minutes more of her, but fear not, she came back a few minutes later.
