[DID NOT ATTEND: October 2, 2024] Dysrhythmia / Shardik / Vile Form
I could have seen Dysrhythmia (a NYC-based progressive instrumental trio formed in 1998) last year with Stinking Lizaveta.
The week was really busy so I didn’t go to the show.
Since then I’ve been intrigued enough to want to see them. But I think I really want to see them with Stinking Lizaveta!
I was going to a show the following night so I decided not to go to this one. I do like Milkboy as a venue, but it’s kind of a hassle to get to.
I’ve never heard of Shardik. but I’m intrigued that they are on the Tzadik label which I don’t really think of as a technical metal label. Shardik is an
instrumental trio project from the burning guitarist of Cleric and Simulacrum [which] blends avant-garde classical, free jazz, dissonant math metal, ambient and world music into a powerful new mix. Originally from Philly and now living in Brooklyn, Matt Hollenberg has spent over a year composing these complex and exciting pieces and has chosen two of his oldest musical cohorts (Matt Buckley: Drums, Percussion ; Nick Shellenberger: Bass, Synth) to perform them.
This band sounds pretty interesting.
Vile Form is a newish band formed by members of Philly area grind freaks Die Choking (known for their high-speed, technical musicianship and solid songwriting). This new enterprise has
a sound rooted in death metal with a healthy dose of fusion, Vile Form expertly dance between upbeat grooves, bursts of speed and even a few instances where the quartet flirt with slower speeds.
This show might have actually been too intense for me.
