[DID NOT ATTEND: August 27, 2024] King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard / Geese
I’ve seen King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard three times. Each time the show has gotten more and more crowded and chaotic (which is great for them but not so much for me). The last time I saw them, I was pretty far back in the crowd and even that far back there was a lot of mini-pit situations going on. I basically decided I wasn’t going to see them again, but I’d still love their music.
Then they announced this show at The Dell Music Center, which I’d never been to. It’s an outdoor venue near the Mann Center. It has seats (or bench seats at least) and promised that I’d get to see them without having to fight to stand up the whole time. So I was pretty excited for this one.
Then I got to the venue.
There’s no easy way to get there. My app showed very little traffic until I got closer when suddenly I was in bumper to bumper gridlock on the tint streets of Philly. And my arrival time slowly went from 7:45 to 8:30.
I had wanted to see Geese, a weird indie band from Brooklyn who is hard to describe although they seem to be diving into a kind of punk country scene. They also apparently have a very fun live show. I sat in traffic and could kind of hear Geese, but not very clearly.
Dell Music Center said that they have handicapped parking spots available, but most of the parking seems to be on side streets and in the grass and is basically a freeforall. I’ve got hip issues and wanted to get a handicapped spot, but by the time I got to the parking area, it was full.
While I Was in the car line, there were so many people milling about–it felt like a Phish show. It was hot and I was already tired. So by the time I realized I would have to park at least a mile away and that there was a pretty long line to get in already, I just decided, the hell with it and went back home.
So yeah.
The nice thing is that every show on this tour is available for free to stream. With most shows (but not this one) offering video. So, no one really needs to see them in person at all.
And hey, Markit Aneight has posted the show for me
