[DID NOT ATTEND: May 20, 2024] Zeta / Cold Court / Sweet Pill
I was really excited when this show was announced (although not the reason it was an announced).* But this week appears to be the week that I had many shows lined up and things keep coming up to prevent me from going.
So, as my day unfolded, it was pretty clear that i wouldn’t be able to go to the show.
And with this line up, I’m sure it was intense and amazing. In fact, it may have been a little too intense for me in that small space. The last time I went to the Ukie club there was some serious dancing and right now I am not up for the pit. So maybe it was better for me to not be there.
Sweet Pill was a “special guest” until some details were leaked. They just sold out Union Transfer, and I’m sure they brought in some extra bodies. I haven’t given them a lot of listen but I like what I hear and it would have been fun to see them in a small place before they really take off.
I saw Cold Court open for Black Midi and they blew me away. I can’t find much about them, but back then I wrote
How best to describe them? I’ve never seen a band with a viola player inspire a mosh pit before. The mosh pit was pretty much non-stop. Not bad for an opening band.
So yes, this show would have been insane
And Zeta, I saw open for Sparta. And I wrote
No one could keep still–the music was everywhere and it was infectious. There was a woman behind me dancing full on, everybody else was nodding and bobbing. During the Sparta set, lead singer Jim Ward said that if you hadn’t heard of zeta before seeing them tonight, you just saw your new favorite band. And he was right.
I really wanted to see them again and I had a few chances, but I blew it. I hope that they come back around next year and more importantly, that their legal fees are taken care of.
* The reason for the show was that Zeta, a band from Venezuela was arrested in Texas (details are vague for legal reasons). They incurred over $30,000 in fees and fines. I won’t speculate on what happened, but it is Texas, so…. Anyhow, the band are nice decent folks, and I was happy to buy a ticket and show some support.
