[DID NOT ATTEND: April 17, 2024] Juana Molina / Madison Cunningham
I am pretty lucky where I live to have so many concert venue choices. This tour with Madison Cunningham and Juana Molina was appearing at two places roughly an hour from me (yes, I wish all the venues were a little closer).
I used to love White Eagle Hall but I have found it to be less than ideal lately, for a number of reasons. I still think the venue is great, but if I can go elsewhere, I will. So, even though Ardmore Music Hall is kind of a pain to get tom it feels like a better venue for this show.
I have wanted to see Juana Molina for a few years (I was supposed to see her in 2020 but her show was cancelled due to COVID). I’d rather have seen her as a headliner, but this collaborative night sounded like a lot of fun.
I really like Madison Cunningham’s song “Hospital” (which I don’t think she’s actually playing on this tour). I enjoy the rest of her music too, so it should be a fun night.
Here’s what Madison said of this tour:
This April I’m joining forces with my hero @soyjuanamolina for a very special run of collaborative shows. We’re going to play on each other’s songs and improvise throughout the evening too.
I first heard Juana when I was 17 years old, and no one has influenced me in that way since. To say I’ve been dreaming about these nights for the last decade of my life isn’t an overstatement. Those who know me best, know it’s true! I have this hunch it’s going to be really special and you should be there! General on-sale is this Friday Feb 2 at 10am local time.
And here’s what Juana said:
hello! i know, i know, i always speak in spanish, but this time i need to address myself directly to you, north americans!
i am thrilled to announce the NOT THAT SIMILAR tour i will be doing with the great madison cunningham. we love each other’s work so we decided to break the mold and have a different kind of co-headlining tour: we want to play separate and together and then separate again, and who knows what else we will come up to once we meet a few days before the tour starts. we may even write a song together and improvise something every night. could it be more exciting? hardly.
