[DID NOT ATTEND: December 18, 2023] Wax Jaw / Trash Boy / Jim E. Brown
I was pretty excited to go to this show. I had seen Wax Jaw a few months ago and they were outstanding. This was to be their last show of the year and it was back on home turf. It was also going to be my last show of the year and it seemed like a great one to go out on.
Then it rained. And rained. And rained. Our area was flooded like crazy–schools closed, rivers overflowing, the works. I probably could have still gone to the show. It looked like Philly wasn’t as badly affected as my area was, but when I looked on the map, it did suggest that there were flooding issues along the way and around the venue. It just didn;t seem like it was worth going to the hassle.
So I stayed home.
Bummer.
I’ve seen a couple of videos and the show looks insane. I hope someone has recorded the whole show.
I didn’t know Trash Boy, but they are a pop punk band in the PUP vein–but with a Philly pedigree.
Trash Boy is a band from South Philadelphia PA that writes and records music and plays shows mostly in basements bars and other obscene environments for the express purpose of inciting both organized and chaotic resistance to the capitalist racist and other repressive mindsets and power structures that consume our time our fears our minds and our bodies which we can reclaim through going to punk shows and we hope to see you there thanks.
That’s pretty awesome.
I didn’t know Jim E. Brown either.
Poet and Artist/Activist Jim E. Brown was born in Manchester on September 10, 2001, just one day before the 911. He is an alcoholic and has several degenerative conditions.
His YouTube videos say
19 year old British pop sensation Jim E. Brown returns with his latest album, Torture
I have no idea how this guy (who is not 19 at all) got mixed up with Wax Jaw. His music is weird and comically dark.
Over simple melodies, Brown speak/screams lyrics to songs like “I texted you a photo of the sunset and you never responded” and “I know I’m going to die of a stroke.” Sounds interminable and wonderful.
