[DID NOT ATTEND: July 31-August 2, 2020] Newport Folk Festival
We went to Newport Folk Festival in 2019. We’ve had a kind of understanding that we would try to go again. So this year, when tickets were announced I jumped online and managed to score four of them!
Then it turned out that the weekend would be massive conflict.
So, after seeing just who would be there, we felt that the whole fest was kind of a big shrug. And it would be no loss to sell the tickets back. Fortunately, Newport has a great system where you just put the tickets back in the pool and who ever is next gets them.
We didn’t get tickets for Friday, which turned out to be the one show I’d have liked to have seen.
Although, even among all those artists listed, I’d only want to see My Morning Jacket–and we have tickets for them later in the year. Maggie Rogers–and we’ll be seeing her at the All Things Go Festival and Mdou Moctar–and I just saw him.
As for Saturday, I like Aimee Mann, but don’t really need to see her again. I’d certainly check out Goose given all of the buzz around them. I do actually want to see Indigo de Souza (have tried several times, with most of those shows getting cancelled). I’ve seen Bartees Strange a few times already, and I don’t really like The Hold Steady all that much although I might check out a few songs.
Not a huge endorsement, and I particularly don’t want to see Jon Batiste or Jason Isbell.
Then there’s Sunday. I’m intrigued by Gregory Alan Isakov although I’m not sure I actually like him. I’d like to see Madison Cunningham, but she’ll be at the All Things Go festival.
I don’t really like Lana Del Rey, but I’ll be seeing her at All Things Go. And while I like Billy Strings, I saw him open for someone and it was amazing. I don’t think I want to see him on a big stage (or maybe I do).
So, it was not a hard decision to sell these tickets. Saved us a lot of money, too!
