[NO SHOWS: December 29, 2017]
December 29, 2017 was a night of many many shows that I was interested in. I thought it would be fun to end my season of many concerts near the year end (but not on New Year’s Eve, because I have a family, after all–even though Phish beckoned).
So the first option was Phish at Madison Square Garden. They were playing three nights for New Years. I tried to get tickets to any of the three, because sure I Would have absolutely gone on New Years Eve, who am I kidding). But in the band’s lottery I did not get any GA tickets. I have seen them twice before but I really only wanted to see them up close. So when no GA were forthcoming, I basically decided I wouldn’t go. Even though I love CashorTrade, I wasn’t willing to fight for them. Plus, there were other possibilities.
Pinegrove! I already had tickets to a show with them earlier in the month, but I would totally see them twice. They were joined by Forth Wanderers (who I don’t know) & Fire is Motion (who I really like). But, as my previous post noted, their whole tour was cancelled.
But fear not. Because Ardmore Music Hall announced that Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel (whose new album is a great rocking guitar instrumental disc) were opening for legends Television. I had never seen Television, didn’t even imagine that there was a possibility of seeing them. But it sounded like a great double bill. I had been to Ardmore once before and my friend Tony said that he lived pretty close. I told him about the show and he thought it would be a good opportunity for us to hang out. A couple nights before the show I saw that online sales would be slightly more than the would be night of the show at the door. So I just figured we’d get them night of. Well, while confirming plans with Tony, he checked and discovered that the show had sold out! Even though the night before there were still tickets. What a drag.
There was still one more opportunity. Diarrhea Planet who has four guitarists and evidently puts on a killer show, was playing at Underground Arts. Opening the show was The Superweaks and Yankee Bluff. It was a long shot at this point because with my plans scrapped I was going out with the family to a party (announced after my Television plans were created). Well, I kept an eye on the time and then saw that Diarrhea Planet had an announcement–their van broke down and they would not be able to make it to Philly. The show was cancelled.
Wow.
There was yet one more show available to me. But by then I was worn out for trying. Fire in Motion rescheduled their cancelled show for PhilaMOCA with Adult Mom and Petal. Adult Mom were supposed to open for Pinegrove on their earlier cancelled show. I didn’t know them or Petal. I would have loved to see Fire is Motion again, but driving 90 minutes for what would no doubt be a short opening set just wasn’t in the cards.
Not to mention, we had a great time at the family party and didn’t get home until 9 or so. So basically all shows were off.
An exhausting night of not going to any shows. But I did get some Big Ass Soap as a present!
