[ATTENDED: November 5, 2014] Hollywood Studios
For our final day in Disney, we decided to do the most “teen friendly” place, as I like to think of it. There’s some big time intense rides here–Tower of Terror and Rock and Roller Coaster. We figured that after the big rides of the last few days, our kids might like to do one of these even bigger rides. And then C. threw up during the night.
Yup, two stomach bugs marring our Disney trip. C. was less intense than T.’s but he was still wiped out. And it really put the kibosh on us doing anything crazy fun. And yet, there’s no resting if you are sick.
So, we decided to do some of the more mellow events today. We had some FastPasses, and they were in the middle of the day, so we had some time to explore.
Muppet Vision 3D
We see this every time we go, especially if the line is 5 minutes. And it’s always silly goofy fun. They had updated the pre-show with some clips from the new movie, which was cool.
Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure
S. and I had never been to this, but since the kids were feeling up for running around (T. was all better and C. was perking up), we decided to let them explore the playground. It’s pretty neat with everything being oversized and all.
We got some lunch (I love the Sci Fi Dine-In Theater but the line was way too long for that) and T. watched them “film” a commercial (the street theater is very fun in this park).
I was bummed that the Studio Backlot Tour had been discontinued just a few weeks earlier. It was a cool ride. So instead we did
The Great Movie Ride
I have enjoyed this ride in the past, but I was a little disappointed this time. Perhaps it was our hostess.
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
I had never seen this before, so we decided to check it out. I found out later from someone else who went the day before us that our show had two glitches in it. What the heck, Disney? The first one was that the giant rolling boulder never rolled down. The iconic moment from the movies and we didn’t get to see it! In fairness, the actors and people involved in the show were very cool and made it seem like the glitch was just part of the show–I never would have known somethign was amiss if my friend didn’t say anything. Later on, the propeller of the plane had a problem and they had to fix that too. The host of the show was good at keeping us entertained, but I thought that it was very weird to have us wait around “just like in the movies.” It was still a cool show, I must admit.
Star Tours–The Adventure Continues
S. loves this Star Wars ride, and they have totally revamped it since we last went on it. Now evidently there are multiple scenes and locations with some 30 permutations of possibilities. We only rode it once, but it was pretty awesome. A very cool 3D experience.
We headed over to our final FastPass in Sunset Boulevard. When I saw that Tower of Terror had a very short wait, i insisted that S. go on it. S. loves the Tower of Terror–it’s one of her all time favorite rides. There was no way C. was going on it (sick or not), but T. insisted she go too–there were not enough thrill rides for her at Hollywood Studios. And they had a great time, while C. and I shot people with his Boba Fett blaster.
Beauty and the Beast–Live on Stage
When we first got the FastPass for this, I imagined that it would be a good respite for the excitement of the park. It turned out that most of our day was resting anyhow. But this was the only “show” that we saw, and it was fun. I enjoyed the way they truncated the movie to 30 minutes with “and through a complex series of events, this happened.” There were some very cool stage tricks as well. I was quite impressed.
The kids were done by then, so we left. I always thought that Hollywood Studios was a much bigger place. But even though we didn’t get to do the Rock n Roller Coaster or Toy Story Midway Mania (those lines!), I feel like even if the kids were feeling better, we could have done a half day there and then gone to another park for the evening (if we had a ParkHopper, which we didn’t).
But despite the sicknesses, we had a great time at Walt Disney World. So much to see and do and tons and tons of memories.
And we had to save our energy for tomorrow’s trip to Universal Studios!
