That’s right, I hopped on a meme bandwagon. I like most of the Ryan Gosling “Hey Girl” pictures, but this one was particularly amusing. Thanks, Feminist Ryan Gosling.
Last year I had started a post called “Things to expect in 2011.” I never finished the post and never published it. I looked at the draft the other day and was intrigued that not only didn’t I finish what I prepared to read, but as I was prepping this post I wound up with many of the same goals for 2012. One thing I realized was that it takes longer to read than I think it does. I have ten McSweeney’s issues left that I want to read. It won’t take me a month to read one, but it could take upwards of two weeks. So, that’s almost half a year. Astonishing.
I also complained in yesterday’s post that I didn’t have a lot of short stuff to read. It’s strange that I would say this right after complaining about McSweeney’s, but the thing is that I like to review the McSweeney’s (and, actually many collections) as a unit. And since I’ve done over 20 McSweeney’s that way I’m not going to change. However, I may start dissecting other collections for maximum spread-out-ness. There’s also graphic novels. I have quite a few that I’ve been putting off for various reasons. SO I’ll try to get to them as well.
I also hope to read at least three more Vonnegut books.
I hope to read the rest of the Douglas Coupland books that I haven’t written about (I think it’s 5)
I hope to read the rest of the A.M. Homes books that I haven’t read.
And I’m planning to read John Sayle’s massive book that I’d read an excerpt from. IT was quite good, and should only take me three months, right?
So, that’s 2012. Not a daunting number of books, sadly, but let’s see how it plays out. Actually it’s kind of depressing to think I don’t have enough time to read more than that.
Oh, and of course, and cool books that come out this year as well. That seems doable. If only I could read as part of my job.
