[ATTENDED: January 30, 2026] Jordan Klepper
My wife and I used to watch the Daily Show all the time. Once ***** got elected we stopped because it was just too painful to deal with the reality. But we do still watch clips online. My wife really likes Jordan Klepper. I knew of him, but didn’t really know him that well.
When this show was announced at McCarter, and she expressed interest in going, well, it was already sold out. So that sucked. But then they added a second show the same night so I grabbed us tickets.
Obviously, I would prefer to go to the 7PM show and be home by 9, but it was kind of novel to be able to leave the house at 8:30 for a show. It was also novel, but not in a good way that it was 9 degrees out when we left. But Jordan was hilarious and it was a solid 85 minutes of humor.
There was a screen behind him projecting a painting of a random spot in California. It was beautiful but something looked off. Later on he revealed that the mountains in the background were the Swiss Alps. But people at the time didn’t know much about the West Coast and the flocked to see the painting.
But so yes, he told us a little about himself–that he has been on The Daily Show for years and as part of his remit, he has been to over 4,000 T**** rallies. Jesus wept.
And over the years he has gotten to know some of the regulars. Because of course there are regulars. He used a very funny metaphor about them as well. He talked about once on The Daily Show having to interview a famous pug. He didn’t say how the interview was actually going to … proceed … because it was derailed when the pug got an erection. And he talked about how it looked like red lipstick. And the he posted a picture of all of the MAGAs wearing their red hats.
Not subtle, kind of stupid (as he admitted) but very funny.
And then he revealed that yes, this comedy show was “a fucking powerpoint.”
He talked about several men who he has talked with over the years. There is Brick Suit Guy (he owns 5 bespoke suits that look like a brick wall). He has been to hundreds of rallies and has been on stage several times.
There was a guy who looked like Santa Claus but with his teeth sharpened into fangs.
There was a guy who everyone believed was JFK Jr (except the man himself) and another guy who other people thought was JFK Jr. Klepper did try to quickly explain the idiocy of the conspiracy theory about JFK Jr (who has been dead for over 25 years). The first guy (who knows he is not JFK Jr) gets mad, though, that people think the other guy is JFK Jr, because he is closer to being JFK Jr. Jordan had a hilarious slide that you cannot be closer to being JFK Jr you either are or you are not. And he is dead.
It wasn’t all MAGA stuff though. he talked about being a young lad (cure embarrassing photo) and how he became obsessed with George W. Bush because Klepper was young and this was the most famous person to come close to his home in Kalamazoo. He was obsessed with Bush for quite some time and soon wanted to meet any President. Cue a photo of young Bill Clinton meeting JFK.
So Klepper once met Bill and Hillary for a Daily Show bit. It was very funny and featured Hillary reading from the Mueller Report (which at the time spoke to T****’s election interfering). And then a funny bit in which Bill summed up Klepper in a video of a bull riding in a convertible.
Klepper doesn’t like the people that he interviews and he knows that he can’t change their minds. But he also sympathizes with them. They are lost, feeling like there is nothing for them. And they are looking for someone to follow. If only a more charismatic good person had come along.
He showed two clips of people who were at the Jan 6 insurrection. One was a guy he had met at an earlier rally and he seems affable and good natured (despite using the word sheeple way too many times). But during the insurrection, he had an arsenal with him. Another guy Klete was an Olympic medal winner (along with Michael Phelps). And then he dropped off the face of the earth. Except for two local stories. One was a hilarious story about a dog walker who apparently came into his house, used his shower and then filmed people having sex in his couch. There was enough left out of the clips to make it unclear wtf was going on but the jist was clear. The second was when he saved a child from drowning. So, even though he was at the insurrection, he’s not a bad person (necessarily).
He didn’t offer easy answers or quick fixes. He didn’t need to remind us how fucked the world is right now, He just made us laugh over and over again.
The bit where he showed a picture of his child (by using a clip of a character actor because he wasn’t showing his child to US) was great and called back a few times. And his belief that we need to take back YMCA from MAGA and return it as a gay anthem was a hilarious moment.
Things are so shitty in the world right now that I wasn’t sure I’d want to see a political comedian. But Klepper did an amazing thing. He talked about MAGA without mentioning T**** all that much. Because it wasn’t about the Pedophile in Chief it was about the people who follow him. And they are far more entertaining and just a little less scary.
I really laughed a lot at this show and I think the whole room needed it.
