[DID NOT ATTEND: August 23, 2025] Wisp / Dream Ivory / Aldn
I had never heard of the band Wisp. They were announced as an opening band for the System of a Down show so I checked them out and enjoyed them. I was looking forward to seeing them [UPDATE: we arrived too late and missed them entirely].
I was absolutely fascinated that they (she) had a headlining gig at Union Transfer a few days before the show (apparently Wisp has a big online following).
But this show was smack dab in the middle of our vacation so there was no way I could go anyway.
Luckily Gloss was at the show and recorded all three bands (see below).
I hadn’t heard of either opening band (the way it was originally written I though there were three opening bands (I thought Dream Ivory was two separate bands, but I see they have a comma in their name), It makes sense I hadn’t heard of either band since I hadn’t even heard of the headliner.
ALDN is Virginia-raised, New York-based left-field pop artist Alden Gardner Robinson operates under the stylized mononym aldn, blending indie rock, pop, and trap. Listening to his video below, his music seems simple and pretty much lo-fi.
Dream, Ivory is the duo (although there are three in the video below) of brothers Christian (guitars, percussion) and Louie Baello. They are described as dream pop and I can see that. They are slow and dreamy.
Wisp is Natalie R. Lu from San Francisco. Her debut single “Your Face” became viral on TikTok, charting on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs. Her debut EP, Pandora, was released in April the following year. In August 2025, she released her debut studio album, If Not Winter.
Wisp played for about an hour. There were four members on stage (bass, guitar, drums) and they had a fuzzy shoegaze vibe that I liked. But the sound was overall kind of samey.
I didn’t really like the other bands that much, so I’m not upset that I missed the show.
