[ATTENDED: March 28, 2025] Ninja Sex Party
I found out about Ninja Sex Party when I saw TWRP and Trey Magnifique opened for them. Trey was hilarious and I had to look him up. I discovered that Trey is indeed Brian Wecht, who is Ninja Brian of NSP. Brian is also a published theoretical physicist–his career change is fascinating and quite successful. Brian played all the music until TWRP joined them in 2015. But the focus of the band is singer Danny Sexbang [Dan Avidan], he of the glorious long hair and flowing cape.
Lyrically most of their songs are about sex and are NSFW, but some are just funny. I had heard they put on a great show and that must have been true since the place was packed.
I enjoyed every minute of their set. Dan is hilarious and Ninja Brian is an amazing sidekick. They opened with Get Ready to Get Ready started the show and it is hilarious. Every time I listen, it makes me laugh
So get ready To be ready To get ready
‘Cause we’re almost about to rock
We’re gonna melt your face
With time and space, at an appropriate pace. For those who about to about to rock. (Rock!)
Please hang tight while I find my socks. (Socks!)
Gonna crack your skull like an aftershock
Just gotta call my broker, sell some stocks.
Cool Patrol is a pretty amusing song about the Cool Patrol teaching kids how to deal with bullies (with a very amusing dance). Welcome to My Parents’ House is a hilarious seduction attempt, while trying not to wake up Danny’s parents.
I cracked up over the lyrics to Seatbelts! (don’t use ’em … and smoking is good). Following it up with the new, even more hilarious, song I Own a Car was pretty genius.
They played a bunch of covers which makes sense since they have released four Under the Covers albums. Their covers are serious and quite good. But I didn’t know they’d be playing any, so it was fun to hear You Spin Me Right Round.
And then Danny left the stage for Brian’s solo performance to Korn’s Freak on a Leash. The band did a pretty impressive cover of the song (although the vocoder voice in the chorus was a little unexpected). But this was Ninja Brian’s moment to shine. And shine he did, by slowly dropping a dozen or so ears of corn (get it) into his pants (I don’t get it, but it was hilarious). Ninja Brian never talks and more or less is always giving everyone the finger, so this was pretty funny.
A song later they did a great (serious) version of Just What I Needed.
It was fascinating that they could intersperse really good cover songs between songs called Heart Boner and Orgy for One (Danny invited a lot of girls over for an orgy, but they all had excuses)
Stacy had a headache
Jenny was in jail
Brenda had to work late
Kate was getting Jenny’s bail
Angela got scurvy
Ashley caught a cold
Sally’s dad exploded That’s what I was told
Michelle had to play checkers
Ann was baking pies
Wendy’s dad exploded too That might’ve been a lie
Pam had Frisbee lessons
Stella had ballet Now I’m by myself But I can have fun anyway
After that, they launched into a great cover of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. And then they excited everybody in the crowd (except me, since I had no idea what was going on) by playing their epic song 6969.
6969 is an 8 minute sci fi epic (their sexy take on 2112) from their 2015 album Attitude City. I seem to have very good luck in being at shows where I get an exciting Easter Egg but it doesn’t mean anything to me because I don’t know the song or background. However, I was pretty delighted to hear this epic (sexic?)
Their encore was the TWRP song Twilight Brigade which I’ve heard from TWRP a few times and then ended with the NSP classic Danny Don’t You Know, a hilarious self-deprecating song.
The show was so funny I tried to convince my family to go to the same show the following night in Philly — but it was in a much bigger venue and it seemed like a real hassle. But be assured, if and when NSP tours again (they don’t tour often) I’ll be there.
