[DID NOT ATTEND: July 13, 2024] Dr. Dog / Kevin Morby / The Teeth

I never really got into Dr. Dog but I’ve liked a bunch of their songs over the years. And I’d always heard they were great live, so I had them on my “wanna see” list.
Back in June of 2021, Dr. Dog announced their last tour.
“It is a disturbing thing to read, I’m sure, and trust me, an equally unsettling thing to write, but it’s all good,” they wrote. “It’s important to us that you understand that this is not a break up or anything like that. We don’t know what Dr. Dog will do, we just know it won’t include going on tour, except the tour we’re announcing now, which is going to rule.”
And yet, now they were back with a new album an a live show (I don’t know if there were any other shows).
I opted not to go. The Mann is kind of a pain to get to and I just wasn’t sure I cared enough to bother.
Kevin Morby is one of those guys who I kind of know–and probably know a lot more from him than I realize. I know that he’s “with” Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee in some capacity and I really like This is a Photograph. I guess seeing him as an opening band would be the way to go. But again, there was no one on this bill that was enough of a draw to drag me out to the Mann Center on a Saturday night.
I had never heard of The Teeth and then all of a sudden earlier this year they seemed to be everywhere (or at least at Johnny Brenda’s) all the time.
Back in January I wrote this about the Teeth.
I had never heard of The Teeth before I saw that they had sold out three nights at Johnny Brenda’s months and months before these shows happened.
So who were they?
The Teeth was an indie rock band from Philadelphia consisting of twin brothers Aaron MoDavis on rhythm guitar and Peter MoDavis
After abruptly breaking up 15 years ago The Teeth are reuniting for a pair of special shows at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia. Twin brothers Peter MoDavis (Bass) and Aaron MoDavis (guitar) will reassemble with Jonas Oesterle (drums) and Brian Ashby (guitar) on their favorite stage in the City of Brotherly Love.
Good for them for getting on this bill.
