I’ve been meaning to read more Thomas Pynchon for years, and Gravity’s Rainbow always seemed like the place to start. I’ve always felt daunted by the task (which is funny since I loved Infinite Jest (which is a lot bigger), but I have this idea that Pynchon is a lot harder to digest.
I will soon find out because the great folks over at Infinite Zombies are running a Gravity’s rainbow read. And I’m in!
Unlike with some other books where I contributed to the main page, I won’t have much to say over at the IZ site. I don’t even really have a sense for how much I’ll be able to integrate with IZ. This is primarily because my work schedule doesn’t permit as much free blog time. It’s also because I don’t really know what I’m in for. But I will be posting weekly updates here.
The schedule at the left shows the spoiler line, ie: don’t post about anything past that section of the book before that date. It’s about 80-90 pages a week, which seems daunting by doable.
Now how am I supposed to have time to read other things as well?

I’m glad you’re in and had thought about sending you an explicit invitation to blog over at IZ, but I wondered about your availability. If you get a hankering to post something over there, I believe you have the keys to the building, so let yourself on in. I plan to post a quickie about the three of us who will be blogging at IZ and will suggest that people keep tabs on your blog as well.
Thanks Daryl,
Is it common to connect the intro to Ulysses? ( I haven’t read any criticism yet), because if not, I’ve got an idea brewing….
I don’t know if it’s common (I’ve read very little criticism), but it was one of the first things I noticed too. Walking out on the balcony of a venerable old home, eating a memorable breakfast, etc. Seems like a good idea to poke at a bit.
Hi. I’m a writer and I came across your blog. It’s funny that you have an NJ blog, because I have a website, newjerseyisbeautiful.com, but I haven’t updated it in a while. Anyway, nice blog!
Thanks. I love your site! We had a lot of fun making our blog but then we got too busy to keep it up. Thanks for showing how beautiful NJ is!
