I am probably the only person in America to see this book: ![]()
and get excited because I thought it was about Ben Elton.
It didn’t even cross my mind that it would be about Elton John (nevermind that it doesn’t LOOK like Ben Elton, I only saw the title…plus he has sunglasses on and everyone knows that once you put on sunglasses no one ever recognizes you!). Now, clearly this is my own bias, but OH, what a disappointment.
This reminds me of days long ago (the early 90s) when I saw books by Steve Martini
and thought they were by Steve Martin.
Just as I began to convince myself that I would never see a book by Steve Martin, he started writing books… (even though they don’t look like Martini’s books).
Does anyone else recall hearing the opening riff to the Smiths “How Soon Is Now?”
and getting really excited until the drum kicked in and informed you that you were in fact listening to “Hippychick,”
a song which I will forever hate for this fact alone. I could never give an honest assessment for this song simply because of our long history together.
It is, of course, ridiculous to get annoyed by things like this, and yet I constantly do. It just seems to reinforce the fact that the things I like are not popular. Now, once again, I totally acknowledge that I like things that are not popular, but to have your hopes built up and dashed is simply ego destroying.
As for the word “misled” itself, maybe one day my wife will tell her hilarious story about this word…check her blog to see.
