Wow, a 17 minute guitar solo is NOT a
good way to drive to work when you’re sleepy!
[READ: May 2007] Decoy.
I first bought an issue of Decoy about 5 years ago. I had this one issue and a crossover with Herobear and the Kid. I pretty much forgot about it until I started looking at my comics again, and said, “Hey, I wonder if I can get the rest of this series?” Well, thank you Penny Farthing Press
for having back issues available. This is a cute series about an alien stranded on earth. It flip flops some conventions but ultimately sticks with a good cop, a hot-chick partner cop and nefarious evil doers. There’s something charming about the series, in that the art is nice, the story is decent and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. An enjoyable diversion. And, especially easy to digest as this appears to be the entire body of work.
[Update: July 9, 2007] There are also some cool twists on violence and the perceptions of good and evil. Decoy’s home planet has two species: a big scary horrific monster type race, who are entirely benevolent, and Decoy’s race who are cute characters not unlike “Bone” who are basically evil. Later issues delve into the reasons why Decoy himself is not evil, and it really adds depth to the storyline. I have a Decoy book called Menagerie, which I’m looking forward to reading one of these days, too.
