[DID NOT ATTEND: December 8, 2022] Autumn Defense / Nels Cline Duo / Eucademix
When this show was first announced, I grabbed a ticket immediately.
Two of my favorite members of Wilco are Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche.
So to be able to see them do their work solo was incredible.
Then all of a sudden, when I looked at the show poster it looked like this —>
instead of the one at the bottom of the post.
Where was Glenn?
There was no word or information. A day or so before the show I discovered that Glenn had hurt his arm (or something) and wasn’t going to be there.
Well, I don’t know Autumn Defense. And I love Nels Cline, but driving to Ardmore on a cold December night to see his Duo play (instead of whatever he might have done in my mind) just didn’t seem worth it.
A friend of mine went and said it was very good and I’m sure it was. But I’ll admit I wanted to see Glenn
The Autumn Defense is (as the poster says) an American indie rock band composed of multi-instrumentalists John Stirratt and Pat Sansone. They play a kind of 70’s soft rock but with a slightly slightly psychedelic edge. I rather liked their live album, although as a duo, the show might fall a little flat.
Nels Cline plays in many many different configurations. This Nels Cline Duo was him and Chris Lightcap on upright bass. Instrumental beauty (although I’m not sure I would have loved standing for it all).
Eucademix is Yuka Honda, who used to be in Cibo Matto. Cibo Matto were certainly experimental (in a poppy fun alt rock way). Eucademix is experimental in an avant garde way. Eucademix is sometimes a band, but in this case it was just her solo. She uses a laptop to create interesting sounds–some pleasant, some not so much.
I’ve heard people say the show was great, but I’m probably just as happy I stayed home.
